Ritual of kissing a snake

The video below is shows and ancient ritual from Burma, done with the objective to bring rain. The ritual consists in a priestess succeeds in kissing a snake 3 times on the nose not being hurt, reenacting a myth of that region about a marriage between a woman and a snake.

And before you, with your modern mind gets all crazy, smashing your head against the screen screaming "Why???? Why, guy from the internet?!? Tell me, why?!?", the snake represents to that culture the life, the rain, the fertility, so, to put it simple, it is something like "give me a woman and I give you what I represent". Oh, and just as curiosity, that snake that she is kissing is a king cobra, the the world's longest venomous snake.
